Seoul Promises Full Support for US Anti-Terrorism ActionsSouth Korean President Monday Kim Dae-jung promised his nation's full support for US anti- terrorist actions based on the South Korean-U.S. mutual defense Treaty."The Korean people and I fully support your firm resolution to root out such terrorism," Kim said in a message to his U.S. counterpart George W. Bush Monday morning. Kim also said his country will take part in the international efforts to support the U.S. actions against terrorism after the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington. "I assure you that the Republic of Korea will provide all necessary cooperation and assistance as a close U.S. ally in the spirit of the ROK-U.S. Mutual Defense Treaty," added the South Korean president in the message. This is the second time that the South Korean president voiced his support for U.S. actions against terrorism in a week. South Korean troops and police have been on high alter and increased guard around the U.S. Embassy military bases in the country in accordance with President Kim's order last Tuesday following the terrorist attacks. Some 23 South Koreans were reported missing after the World Trade Center buildings in which they were working collapsed following attacks of the two planes hijacked by terrorists.
