East China Province Issues Standard for "Green Hotels"

East China's Zhejiang Province has issued local regulations on construction of "green hotels" in this province.

Ji Genli, director of the provincial tourism bureau, said that the regulations will be effective from October 12 this year. The regulations involve trash treatment, water resources protection and energy management.

Ji said that implementation of the regulations will help enhance the awareness for environmental protection and push forward the building of "green hotels" in the province.

Local provincial hotels are being urged to provide services which favor the use of local resources and environmental protection as well as being good for people's health.

Zhejiang started to launch "green hotel" activities in 1999, and 32 hotels have been named "green hotel."
