OAS to Convene Emergency Meeting on U.S. Attacks
The Organization of American States (OAS) is set to convene an emergency meeting next Wednesday in Washington to assess the impacts of the terrorist attacks on U. S., the Costa Rican Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
The meeting was called by Costa Rican ambassador to the OAS, Hernan Castro, whose country currently holds the rotating presidency of the Washington-based Pan-American organization.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Miguel Siaz said the 34 member countries "will analyze the impact of the grave terrorist attacks on Washington and New York as well as measures the inter-American organization needs to take."
The United States came under sudden terrorist attacks Tuesday morning. Two hijacked planes slammed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York and toppled them. A third crashed into the Pentagon in Washington which caused the collapse of part of the building.
