Israeli, British Embassies in Lima Evacuated

Some 200 people Friday were briefly evacuated from an office building containing the British and Israeli embassies in Lima following a bomb threat, police authorities said.

Anti-bomb experts with bomb-sniffing dogs and electronic equipment searched the office building but no explosive devices were found.

Authorities said it was a false alarm provided by an anonymous caller.

The two embassies maintained their diplomatic mission on Friday.

The building evacuated faces the residence of the U.S. ambassador. The U.S. embassy, located in another part of the city, has been under reinforced guard since the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.

Several bomb threats have been reported in various Latin American capitals since the attacks.
