Afghan Northern Alliance's Leader Dying
Ahmad Shah Masood, commander of the Northern Alliance fighting Afghan ruling Taliban militia, was dying due to critical wound after an assassination attempt on September 9, said an aide of Masood late on Friday.
While denying an earlier report by the Afghan Islamic Press ( AIP) which claimed death of Masood, the opposition official acknowledged that the commander's condition had become untreatable.
"These reports (of Masood's death) are baseless but it is true that he is dying. It is in the hands of God," said the official.
It was reported that Masood's deputy, General Mohammad Fakhim had been named earlier this week as a temporary commander of the Northern Alliance.
