China's Sci-Tech to Reach World Utmost Frontline in 40 Years: Chen Ning YangIn the 30s or 40s of this century China's science and technology level is sure to reach the utmost front of the world, says eminent scientist and Nobel laureate Chen-ning Yang.Yang made the remark in his report at the annual academic meeting of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, which was held in Changchun, capital city of northeast China's Jilin Province Thursday, September 13. China's hi-tech is now lagging behind developed countries, making some people feel that China is weak in sci-tech. However, Yang points out that the idea is entirely wrong. China's introduction in science was a thing of last century and after generations' efforts, great progress has been achieved and now we are able to launch and retrieve aerospace ship "Shenzhou". The American-Chinese says China's rapid development in sci-tech fields has its internal reasons that have seen being strengthened in this century and so China's position in world sci-tech is still to go up. In the report entitled "Sci-Tech in the New Century", Yang divides Sci-Tech into two parts-basic studies plus development research mean "science", that is something for college and institutions; while development and application studies mean "technology" which is for industrial research institutions and factories. In the thirty or forty years to come the world' attention will be focused more on "technology", especially in the fields of wide application of chips, medical science and drugs and bioengineering, which will serve as a motive force for the development of the world economy.
