Man Charged with Posing as Pilot at JFK Airport: CNNAt least one person was arrested and a handful of others were detained at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport around 6 p.m. EDT Thursday, shortly after the FAA closed all New York-area airports.Authorities arrested one man on charges of having false identification indicating he was a pilot, New York Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik said. The man was stopped as he tried to clear security when authorities found the alleged false identification on him, Kerik said. "He attempted to clear security. He was stopped. The identification he had was indeed false," the commissioner said. At least three people were detained at JFK after they attempted to purchase tickets, FBI sources said. When the three people's names were input into the computer, a "red flag" was raised and authorities were alerted. The FBI is questioning the three, the sources said. The law enforcement activity forced the Federal Aviation Administration to close all three of the New York metropolitan area's international airports -- Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark (New Jersey) -- around 5:30 p.m. EDT. |
