Chinese Leaders Meet Performers from Ethnic Minority Groups

Chinese Leaders Meet Performers from Ethnic Minority Groups
Chinese leaders Friday met 2,700 dancers, singers and other performers representing China's 56 ethnic minority groups at the Great Hall of the People.

Jiang Zemin, Li Peng, Li Ruihuan, Hu Jintao, Wei Jianxing and Li Lanqing and other Communist Party cadres and government officials attended the event.

The performers are in Beijing for the Second National Joint Performance by Ethnic Minority Groups due to open Saturday. The first such performance was held in 1980.

They are to stage 42 performances during the coming days in Beijing.

The show is sponsored by State Ethnic Affairs Commission, the Ministry of Culture, the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television and the Beijing Municipal government.
