Plan for Beijing CBD Published

The Beijing municipal government published on September 13 the Comprehensive Plan for Beijing Central Business District (CBD) and the Temporary Measures for Quickening Beijing CBD Construction in order to accelerate the pace of the district's development and construction and guarantee the smooth implementation of the plan.

The comprehensive plan was mapped out by the method of international collection and scientific argumentation. According to this plan, the construction scale of CBD will be limited within 10 million square meters, of which 50 percent are for office buildings, 25 percent for apartment houses and the remaining 25 percent are facilities for commerce, service, culture and recreation. The main business facilities will be distributed along the East Third Ring Road and on both sides of Jiangguomen Wai Street. The 30-hectare area to be located at the northeast corner of the "golden cross-shape" structure will be the key area of the CBD.

The Temporary Measures includes seven parts, general principles, regional planning, land exploitation, municipal works, construction of supplementary facilities, industrial guidance, investment environment, and supplementary articles.

The publication of these two documents will initiate a new upsurge in Beijing's CBD construction. Currently, over 10 key projects are being established and designed in this area, with a floor space of over 3 million square meters.

The CBD will be built in Chaoyang District in the eastern part of Beijing, starting west from Dongdaquiao Bridge, east to Xidawang Road, and starting south from the Tonghui River and north to Chaoyang Road, occupying an area of about 4 sq. km. The project will help Beijing play a more important role in global economic development because of its favorable location, perfect facilities and first-class service.
