Scientific Elite Gather in Changchun for 2001 CAST Academic Meeting

September 13 saw Changchun, capital of northeast China's Jilin Province herald the annual academic meeting of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST). More than 4,000 scientific workers are invited to the meeting for an exchange of views on knowledge renewal and high-tech development.

As a non-government organization, CAST is an organization of many famous experts, scholars and pioneers in high-tech field. The annual academic meeting was first held in 1999, and it is a meeting of a largest scale for academic exchanges.

Among the 4,206 representatives, 142 are academicians from Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering with a total of 2,879 theses delivered by representatives.

The annual meeting, except the major meeting hall, has also arranged another 10 sub-meetings for discussion on the thematic subjects, such as renovation of traditional industry base, reform and development of state-owned enterprises, nano-meter technology and its development, information science and micro-electronic technology, life science and biological technology, material science, earth science and monitoring technology, resources, ecological and environmental sciences, engineering technology and key projects, agriculture and agro-industrialization, modern medicine and healthcare and others.
