Nanjing Sets Banquets for Homecoming Guests

Participants of the Sixth World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention that takes place September 17-19 will enjoy local food, Chinese music as well as scenic views of the Qinhuai River, according to today's China Daily.

Visitors have been invited to attend a grand banquet by organizers at the Confucius Temple area in the southern part of the capital city of East China's Jiangsu Province.

This is the first time the convention is to be held in the Chinese mainland since its first meeting in Singapore in 1991. It has attracted more than 5,000 people from all over the world, including the largest number of overseas Chinese business people.

As Chinese culture still follows traditional etiquette, guests to the event will be treated to a warm and hospitable welcome. Organizers have decided to present a unique and unforgettable banquet by hosting it in 15 restaurants in the Confucius Temple area by the Qinhuai River, the most beautiful area of the city.

The banks of the Qinhuai River have been densely populated since ancient times. Through renovations and development in recent years, the river is now lined with restaurants and hotels and has become one of the busiest business centres.

The shops, restaurants and bars in the Confucius Temple area are of typical architectural styles from the Ming and Qing dynasties. It has become a well-known tourist resort receiving millions of visitors each year.

Sixteen courses of snacks representing local culinary skills will be served at the banquet.

"Sliced bean curd with chicken broth" and "tea flavoured eggs" with a dozen seasonings that take several hours to cook, are just some of the delicious appetizers that will be served.

Since it is the first time that as many as 5,000 people will eat at the same time, each snack will be served individually. At least 100,000 plates and saucers have been purchased. The best cooks in the city will be there to demonstrate their skills.

To make the banquet more pleasant, all the restaurants have been renovated and decorated with traditional Chinese paintings and calligraphies on the walls and screens, giving the overseas Chinese a feeling of coming home.

Traditional Chinese singers and dancers will perform while the guests enjoy the delicious food, adding a festival atmosphere to the occasion.
