Young People in Shanghai Expect More Opportunities From WTO Entry
The majority of young people in Shanghai, China's leading industrial center, believe China's entry into the World Trade Organization will offer great opportunities for them, according to a recent sample survey.
About 90 percent of the people aged between 14 and 35 in Shanghai think China's entry into the WTO will exert a great influence on the country's economic development. Some 80 percent said economic globalization will benefit China's modernization drive.
A young man, named Zou, said the WTO entry will help China catch up with global development in a short period. However, China should not blindly copy the practices of the west, he said.
The survey shows that many of the young people think the WTO entry will have a large influence on their lives and future development and they are making active preparations for it.
Nearly 40 percent of those surveyed expressed the wish to improve their English capability. Twenty percent want to study computer and network technology.
