Israel Launches Military Operation in Jericho, West Bank

Israeli tanks rolled toward the West Bank town of Jericho early Thursday, witnesses said.

Flares of fire pieced the night sky over the desert oasis town in the Jordan River Valley. Loudspeakers on mosques in the city called people out to fight against the invading Israeli forces.
