EU Vows to Stand by U.S. on Fight Against Terrorism

European Union (EU) foreign ministers at their special meeting in Brussels Wednesday declared a day of mourning for victims of the terrorist attacks in the United States and voiced solidarity with the U.S. for fight against international terrorism.

All 15 ministers of the EU member states ask all Europeans to observe 3 minutes of silence on Friday at noon time, said a declaration issued after the meeting.

The 15-nation bloc said it condemns the perpetrators and sponsors of these acts of barbarism and will "spare no efforts" to help U.S. authorities bring those responsible to justice. "There will be no safe haven for terrorists and their sponsors," it added.

"The Union will work closely with the United States and all partners to combat international terrorism. All international organizations, particularly the United Nations, must be engaged and all relevant instruments, including on the financing of terrorism, must be fully implemented," the ministers said in the declaration.

At the meeting, they also decided to offer "all possible assistance with search and rescue operations" to the United States. "Discussions are underway to establish what help would be most useful," they said.
