Zimbabwean President Shocked at Attacks in United States

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe said on Wednesday that he was shocked by the "ghastly attacks" on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

In his letter to U.S. President George W. Bush, Mugabe said that "I have learnt with a deep sense of shock, horror and utter disbelief of the ghastly attacks on the Pentagon, the World Trade Center and other attacks."

"These attacks appear to be the actions of what can only be the most remorseless and hardened enemies of the United States government and people, and indeed, of all the peace-loving people of the wider world," he said.

"My government, the people of Zimbabwe and I personally, share the shock, anger and anguish of your government, the citizens of the United States, the families of the injured and the deceased and your own anguish and heavy sense of responsibility, Mr. President, as you contemplate what requires to be done," he added.

On the same day, President of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change Morgan Tsvangirai joined the world in condemning the terrorist attack and extended his condolences to the families of the victims.
