Li Peng Meets Former German PM
Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, met Wednesday with Helmut Kohl, former chancellor of Germany.
Li spoke highly of Kohl's role in promoting the Sino-German relations when he served as chancellor of Germany, saying that China is glad to see the strong momentum of development of bilateral relations.
He said that both China and the European Union are important forces advocating multi-polarization of the world, and the development of China-EU relations is not only in their own interests, but also conducive to world peace and stability.
China views its relations with the EU and its member countries from a strategic perspective, he said.
Kohl said he is willing to further contribute to the development of Germany-China relations.
