Li Peng Meets Ghali

Li Peng Meets Ghali
Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, met Wednesday with Boutros Boutros Ghali, former secretary-general of the United Nations (UN).

Li spoke highly of Ghali's contribution to the reform of the UN and to the peace and development of the world during his tenure as UN secretary-general.

Li said that through attending many of the UN conferences he reaffirmed his belief that the major task of the United Nations is to comply with the trend of the world's development and constantly promote the cause of peace and development of the world.

All UN resolutions should sincerely consider the voices of developing countries and reflect their wishes, Li said.

Ghali, who was here to attend the International Forum on China and the World in the 21st Century, said that the forum offers a good chance to learn about China's plans for the new century, and he is going to make further contributions to the ties between China and the rest of the world.
