US$41.3 Million Clinched at Fisheries FairTwenty investment contracts totalling US$41.3 million were signed Tuesday in this coastal city during the first day of the Rongcheng International Symposium and Exhibition on Marine Fisheries and Aquatic Products Processing Technology,according to today's China Daily.Sponsored by three organizations under the United Nations, the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Shandong provincial government, the three-day event is expected to greatly enhance the country's marine economy and promote exchanges and co-operation between China and other major fishery countries. More than 5,000 people took part in the opening ceremony yesterday, including 500 foreign guests from 22 countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, Luxemburg, Singapore, Japan, the Republic of Korea and the United States. More than 200 experts, including 60 from overseas, attended the forum on marine fisheries and aquatic products. The symposium, which continues today, focuses on marine fisheries industrialization, aquatic products breeding, marine pharmaceuticals and marine chemical industries. Fisheries is the pillar industry of Rongcheng, one of the most developed coastal cities in eastern China. To date the gross value of fisheries assets has reached more than 10 billion yuan (US$1.21 billion). Last year the output of aquatic products reached 1.15 million tons, and fisheries income brought in 16.88 billion yuan(US$2 billion). Shandong has been one of the Chinese mainland's major fisheries regions, with many of its products exported. |
