Vice Premier Meets Delegation of Renowned Chinese Americans

Chinese Vice Premier Qian Qichen met Tuesday a delegation of renowned Chinese Americans from the United States, making remarks on Sino-US relations and the Taiwan issue.

Qian said the general trend for Sino-US relations is moving forward although some ups and downs have taken place since the two countries forged diplomatic ties in 1979.

He noted the two governments should acknowledge the common interests between the two countries despite disputes. He believed that Sino-US relations ultimately will be strengthened.

On the Taiwan issue, Qian said mutual economic relations and exchanges between people across the Taiwan Straits are inseparable and so-called Taiwan independence is impossible.

Qian also outlined to the guests China's economic development. He said China is a peace-loving country and the so-called "China threat" is groundless.
