No Immediate Comments on Attacks From US Embassy in Japan

The US Embassy in Japan has no immediate comments on the apparent terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, an embassy official said early Wednesday.

U.S. Ambassador to Japan Howard Baker is currently in the United States to attend events on commemorating the 50th anniversaries of the signing of the San Francisco peace treaty and the Japan-U.S. security pact, the official said.

Following the attacks, Tokyo police conducted tight security at the embassy in Tokyo's Minato Ward and its vicinity.

Last Friday, the U.S. Embassy in Japan issued a warning to all American citizens living in Japan to be careful of a possible terrorist attack on facilities related to the U.S. military.

"We have received unconfirmed information that terrorist actions may be taken against U.S. military facilities or against establishments frequented by U.S. military personnel," the embassy said in a news release last week.
