Chinese President Expressed Sympathy to Bush, US Government and People for Disastrous Attacks

Chinese President Jiang Zemin at Tuesday midnight September 11 conveyed a message to U.S. President George W. Bush in which Jiang expressed sympathy to him and to the US government and people for the disastrous attacks against the U.S.

He also expressed condolences to the family members of the victims.

I am shocked to learn that some parts of New York and Washington D.C. were disastrously attacked, which caused severe casualities. On behalf of the Chinese government and people, I would like to express sincere sympathy to you, and through you, to the U.S. government and people and condolences to the family members of the victims. The Chinese government consistently condemns and opposes all manner of terrorist violence.

Jiang Concerned about Safety of Chinese in US

Chinese President Jiang Zemin in Beijing at midnight September 11 expressed grave concern for the safety of Chinese in the United States following the disastrous attacks in some parts of New York and Washington D.C.

Jiang expressed grave concern for the safety of staff of Chinese institutions, Chinese students, overseas Chinese, and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan campatriots in the U.S.

The Chinese government has ordered the Chinese embassy and all consulates in the U.S., and the Chinese permanent mission to the United Nations to take immediate action and provide all necessary assistance to any Chinese compatriots who were injured in the attacks.

The Chinese government has consistently condemned and opposed all manner of terrorist violence, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao said at midnight September 11.
