Philippine Senators Condemn Terrorist Attacks on USSenate leaders Wednesday condemned the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington D.C., the Philippine News Agency reported.Senate President Franklin Drilon, Senate Vice President Pro Tempore Manuel Villar, Senate Majority Leader Loren Legarda and Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr. were one in airing concern over the country's security, amid threats of international terrorism. In a statement, Drilon called on the police and military officials to review security preparations to ensure that terrorists, both local and foreign, could not sow fear and destruction in the country. "I call on my colleagues in Congress to take a second hard look at our existing legislation on security and terrorism, so that we could effectively address this worldwide menace," Drilon said. "If there is one lesson we have learned from these attacks, it is the urgent need for the world community to act as one in fighting organized terrorism in every corner of our world", he added. Villar described the attacks as senseless acts of violence and aggression against the American people and all peace loving citizens of the world. "I call on our consular offices abroad to cooperate fully with American authorities in dealing with this crisis. I also urge them to exert maximum efforts in swiftly identifying any possible victims who may have been hurt in order that appropriate assistance may be extended to them," Villar said. On the other hand, Legarda said the Philippines should exert its utmost effort in assisting the United States in moves to identify the persons responsible for the total destruction of the World Trade Center in New York and of the Pentagon building in Washington D.C. She also said the Filipinos empathy for the victims transcends all barriers. "We cannot help but feel shock and violation at the horrendous loss of life. The destruction transcends political differences," Legarda said. Meanwhile, Pimentel said the incidents that happened Tuesday in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania show how vulnerable eve the mightiest nation on earth is, today. Pimentel said the terrorist attack in America underscored the need for an international cooperation to combat terrorism wherever it may be. He stressed that the Department of Foreign Affairs should begin to take serious effort at identifying Filipinos who might have been injured in this latest terrorist attack. Some other Senators also issues statements Wednesday to condemn the terrorist attacks on the United States.
