Chinese Vice President Meets Former German Federal ChancellorChinese Vice President Hu Jintao made these remarks in a meeting with Helmut Kohl, former German Federal Chancellor, who is here attending the International Forum on China and the World in the 21st Century. Hu said that China and Germany have maintained fruitful cooperation in many fields since the two countries forged diplomatic ties. Both China and Germany are important countries in the world, and strengthening bilateral relations conforms to the interest of the two peoples, and helps promote all-round development of Sino- European ties, he said. On the international situation, Hu said, the world wants peace, the nations want development and society wants progress. This is the trend of the time. Hu stressed that world multi-polarity and international political democratization help world peace and stability. Kohl said that Germany and China have maintained good relations, and there are no differences in interests between the two countries. He noted that Germany will not forget the support from the Chinese government on its reunification, and also hopes for an early reunification of China. Kohl said that the trend of world multi-polarity will develop continuously, and it is not good if one nation dominates. European integration will play a positive role in the world multi-polar framework.
