HK Delegation to Attend APEC Technomart in Suzhou

Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP) and Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) will jointly organize a delegation to participate in the APEC Technomart IV, which is held in east China's coastal city Suzhou from September 21 to 25.

At least 39 representatives from 20 Hong Kong organizations will participate in the event, and five of these organizations including the HKSTP will exhibit their products and services at the Technomart, the first ever held in China's mainland.

In addition to the science and technology parks, exhibits to be staged from Hong Kong include the fast-acting antibacterial nano-material products by the Auson Group, a firm devoted to the development of biotechnology business in China, and the 3G mobile measurement and optical components by Anritsu Company Limited.

Also included are the new learning factory, a strategic development project of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the interactive computer modeling system and software tool developed by the University of Hong Kong.

HKSTP will promote the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks at the APEC Technomart Expo. In addition to distribute information kits of the parks to participants, there will be a video showing the parks' latest development to visitors.

The parks will invite technology providers and investors from Asia Pacific and China's mainland to participate in Our TechWorld 2002, to be organized between March 19 and 20 in Hong Kong. It targets to recruit over 250 companies from the Chinese mainland, China's Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Israel, the United States and Europe to participate in TechWorld business matching sessions.

The parks corporation was inaugurated in May this year, following a three-way merger among Hong Kong Industrial Technology Center Corporation, the Provisional Hong Kong Science Park Corporation and the Hong Kong Industrial Estates Corporation.

Peter Y. Lo, the HKSTP's chief executive officer, said that there are more and more overseas and domestic companies which are intended to locate their offices in the parks, but the room is limited.

"Even after the China's entry into the WTO, many of the overseas companies will choose Hong Kong as their bases to invest in the mainland, for Hong Kong as an international trade and financial center is able to provide them the best buildings and services," Lo commented.
