Chinese Foreign Ministry's Office in HK Watching HK Residents' Safety in US

The office of the Commissioner of China's Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region issued a statement Wednesday saying they are closely watching the situation of Hong Kong residents in the United States.

"After New York and Washington D.C. of the United States suffered from serious attacks on September 11, we immediately contacted Chinese embassies and consulates in the United States to check the situation of Hong Kong residents in the United States.

We have not received any report on Hong Kong residents' casualties in the collapse of the World Trade Center thus far," said the statement.

"We are closely watching the development of the situation," it said.
