Asian, European Law Enforcement Organs to Meet to Fight Transnational Crimes
Delegates of law enforcement organs of the ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting) partners will meet in Beijing at a symposium on combating transnational crimes held from September 17 to 19, according to China's Ministry of Public Security.
About 200 delegates from 10 Asian countries and 15 European Union (EU) member countries will attend the symposium, said Zhu Entao, assistant minister of Public Security at a press conference held here Tuesday.
The Chinese delegation will consist of officers from administrations such as the Ministry of Public Security, the Foreign Ministry, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, the Ministry of Justice as well as the Hong Kong and Macao Police.
The symposium aims to improve law enforcement cooperation among ASEM partners, in a bid to effectively fight against the increasingly rampant cross-boarder crimes and maintain peace and stability within the region and in the world, Zhu said.
The attendees will exchange views on strategies to prevent and combat transnational economic crimes, international terrorist activities and illegal immigration. And the symposium will also explore more effective mechanisms and measures to help the ASEM partners to cooperate and coordinate law enforcement efforts.
China and Italy were chosen to hold this symposium at the third ASEM summit in Seoul, the Republic of Korea, in October, 2000.
