HK Government Statement on Events in New York, Washington

Hong Kong Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa has expressed his shock and concern at the events which took place in New York and Washington, the Information Co- ordinator Stephen Lam said Wednesday morning.

Tung also expressed his sympathy and condolences to the family of the victims.

"The Hong Kong Police Force are watching developments closely and will take any necessary precautionary measures to ensure that public safety continues to be maintained," Lam said.

Hong Kong airline Cathay Pacific canceled its flights bound for the United States Tuesday after a spate of terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.

Flights bound for San Francisco and Los Angeles due to depart at 11:20 pm and 11:25 pm (1520 an d1525 GMT) were listed as canceled respectively.
