Jiangsu New Favorite of Taiwanese Investment on Chinese Mainland

Jiangsu Province in east China has become a new favorite choice for Taiwanese business people.

Figures provided by the provincial government show that contracted Taiwanese investment in the province surged over 40 percent in the first six months of the year to hit nearly US$3 billion.

The figure represents over one-half of Taiwanese investment in the mainland in the six-month period and exceeds the province's contracted Taiwanese investment in 2000.

So far, the province has approved a total of 9,517 Taiwanese investment projects, involving US$20.2 billion in contracted Taiwanese investment, and US$9.5 billion in used investment.

Most of the Taiwanese investments are located in the cities of Nanjing, Zhenjiang, Changzhou, Wuxi, Suzhou, Nantong, Taizhou and Yangzhou on the Yangtze River.

The province now has nearly 5,000 Taiwan-funded businesses in operation, most of them running well and reporting good profits, officials said.
