US Businessman Confident in Chinese MarketA US businessman has voiced confidence in the Chinese market, saying China's forthcoming entry to the World Trade Organization (WTO) will bring about more opportunities for his company's business development."China's changes in the past five years are very impressive," said William R. Timken, Jr., president and chief executive officer of the U.S.-based Timken Company, the world's leading bearing manufacturer. Timken made the comments while on a visit to Yantai, this coastal city in east China's Shandong Province. His visit to the Yantai University also impressed him. "Chinese students know so much about the operation of big firms, and their English is so good that I'm considering technological cooperation with Chinese universities," Timken said. "Great changes have taken place in Yantai Timken Co. Ltd., too, " he said. He noted with pleasure the strong work force, good management and quality products of the joint venture, established in 1996, which provides bearings to major automakers including Shanghai Volkswagen and the China No.1 Automobile Group Corporation. Timken, also chairman of the U.S. National Association of Manufacturers, wished China every success in its WTO entry, and expressed willingness to share with China his company's experience in the long-term cooperation with international auto giants.
