Electrified Railway Line Linking Wuhan, Guangzhou Operational

Electrified Railway Line Linking Wuhan, Guangzhou Operational
The newly electrified railway line linking Wuhan in central China and Guangzhou in south China was put into service Monday, indicating the whole Beijing- Guangzhou railway line has been electrified.

China started the project to electrify the railway line linking the two cities in 1996 after it completed the project to electrify the northern section of the Beijing-Guangzhou line, or the section linking Wuhan and Beijing.

The Beijing-Guangzhou line, one of China's trunk lines, extends 2,294 km.

China ranks third in the world in total length of electrified rail lines of more than 13,000 km.

China is scheduled to increase the maximum driving speed of its trains running on trunk lines next month.
