Second Advance Visit of APEC 2001 Held in Shanghai

The second advance visit of the APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation) 2001 was held from September 3 to 8 in Shanghai, sources with Chinese Foreign Ministry said Monday in Beijing.

The visit, a meeting involving more than 200 representatives from the 21 APEC economies, provided the economies with detailed information on China's preparations, including protocol, media, security and conference services, for the Ninth APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and the Thirteenth APEC Ministerial Meeting.

Specific and bilateral discussions were arranged in response to participants' questions.

Participants visited APEC 2001 venues, namely, the Shanghai International Convention Center, Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, Oriental Pearl Radio and TV Tower and International Media Center, and Pudong International Airport.

Participants spoke positively of the preparation work, believing that APEC 2001 in October will be a success.

The 2nd advance meeting was chaired by Zhang Yesui, deputy secretary-general of the China Secretariat for APEC 2001 and assistant foreign minister.

The first advance visit was held on July 4 in Shanghai.
