Shanghai to Hold First Kite Contest in Autumn

An international kite contest will be staged in this metropolis between October 1 and 5 and more than 20 kite teams from over 10 countries and regions, including the United States and the Republic of Korea, will attend, government sources said.

The first kite contest to be held in Shanghai, it will be held in the Fengxian District of the city. The district has held kite tourism shows since 1998, attracting tens of thousands of people, including kite teams from the United States, Britain, France, Australia, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands and Belgium.

The kite was invented in China more than 2,000 years ago. October is the best time for kite-flying in the district, which built an international standard kite-flying zone in 1992.
