National Day to Be Celebrated in Macao SARPeople from various social quarters in Macao has set up a preparatory committee to manage various celebration activities for the upcoming 52nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.The celebrations will be started with a grand national flag raising ceremony at 8:00 a.m., and social bodies, companies, factories, schools and residents shall hang China's national flag and the flag of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) on October 1, the authorities said. Organized by the Sports Development Board of the SAR government, a long-distance running with extensive participation of Macao residents will be launched to mark the red-letter day. At night, public buildings will be lit up and fireworks will be displayed to add more festive aura in celebrating the National Day, which is the second since Macao returned to the motherland in December 1999. Various art performances will be held in the period. Ma Man Kei, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), acts as executive chairman of the 386-member committee's presidium, and Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah of the Macao SAR, honorary president of the committee. |
