China Continues to Dominate Diving Poll on Goodwill Games Final DayChina left no doubts as to the strength of their diving team, with their top divers backing up their World Championship titles with wins on Sunday, the final day of the 2001 Goodwill Games.Guo Jingjing and Wu Minxia in the Women's 3m synchronized event, and Tian Liang in the Men's 10m Platform won China's eighth and ninth gold medals out of 10 events. Russia was second in diving's medal tally with one gold, three silver and six bronze medals. The only Russian diver able to stop the Chinese streak was world and Olympic champion Dmitri Sautin in the men's 3m Springboard. In basketball, the United States defended its Goodwill Games gold medal with an unbeaten run, with Argentina claiming silver and Brazil bronze. After defeating Brazil in the semi-final in overtime on Saturday, the United States beat Argentina 91-63. Brazil Sunday caused a major upset in the bronze medal match against Australia, winning in overtime 94-93. In boxing, the powerhouse Cuban team dominated the competition by claiming nine out of 12 gold medals. The nine Cuban gold medalists were Osvaldo Liranza (51kg), Guillermo Rigondeaux (54kg), Rencise Perez (57kg), Jario Kindelan (60kg), Estonio Gutierrez (63.5kg), Ydel Jhonson (67kg), Damian Austin (71kg), Yohason Martinez (81kg) and Odlaniel Solis (91kg). The other top honors in boxing were shared by Russia and the United States.
