4th Convention of Chinese Overseas Scholars in Science, Technology to Be Held

The fourth Convention of Chinese Overseas Scholars in Science and Technology (OCS) will be held in Guangzhou from December 28 to 30, announced the organizing committee office of the OCS Monday in Hong Kong.

Speaking at the press conference, Lin Yuanhe, deputy mayor of Guangzhou, said the convention, co-organized by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Personnel, and the Guangzhou Municipal Government, has become a major channel to attract overseas intellectuals since 1998.

Lin said that during the coming convention, specialized project introduction conferences will be held on key fields such as biotechnology, information technology, new materials and environmental protection. Business and investment environment throughout China will also be introduced thoroughly.

Except technical experts, talents in management, finance, laws, accounting and investment consulting are all welcomed to meet the huge requirement of such caliber after China's entry into the World Trade Organization, he added.

Since 1978, about 380,000 Chinese scholars have studied abroad, of which 130,000 scholars have returned to China.
