Township Enterprise Development Plan in 10th Five-year Plan Period Issued
China's Ministry of Agriculture has lately issued the "Development Plan for Township Enterprises in Tenth Five-year Plan Period (2001-2005)". According to this plan, township enterprises should in the said period reach the general goal as follows: by the end of 2005, reaching value added RMB 4300 billion yuan with an annual increase of 10 percent, increasing industrial value added to RMB 1270 billion yuan, and having altogether 13.7 million employees by recruiting more 10 million employees.
Accordance to the current actual situation in the township enterprise development the plan has laid out policies suitable to the local conditions with guidance given in line with the classified goals for regional, industrial, sci-tech and enterprise development of township enterprises in different places throughout China. In addition, the plan has specially requested that the structure of the township enterprises should be readjusted. That is to say, by the end of 2005, the proportion of the primary industry should be kept at 1 percent, the secondary industry lowered to 74 percent from current 77 percent, and the proportion of the tertiary industry increased to 25 percent from current 21 percent respectively.
