Chimp Attacks Kindergarten Boy

A chimp at the Hangzhou Zoo in east China's Zhejiang Province bit the arm of a four-year-old boy when he fed it last weekend.

The boy, named Cheng Cheng, gave a piece of bread to a chimp around noon last Saturday. The chimp bit the boy's right arm all of sudden and intended to drag him into the den, the "Wenhui Daily " reports Monday.

The boy's neighbor who took him to the zoo and people present tried their best to pull the boy back. After a 10-minute fight, the boy was saved and sent to the hospital.

His arm was blood-stained. A physician in charge said the parenchyma of the boy's right elbow was torn and the radial nerve has been damaged, which is expected to affect the function of his wrist and thumb.

After the operation, Cheng Cheng said, "the chimp is terrible and I dare not to visit it again."

Fang Yuanzhong, the zoo deputy director, said he felt pity about the unexpected accident and urged visitors not feed any food to the animals.
