China Fixes Boundaries Among Provinces, Counties

China has completed delineating boundaries among provinces and counties on the Chinese mainland after five years' work on the project.

That will put an end to the country's confusion in administrative boundaries, which has existed for more than 2,000 years, reported the Beijing Evening News.

Statistics show that by 1995, more than 1,000 cases of disputes had been logged due to the confusion over provincial boundary lines. The arguments over provincial boundaries alone caused more than 100 million yuan (about US$12.1 million) in losses annually.

By now, 68 provincial boundary lines, with the length totaling 62,000 km, as well as lines to separate 2,800 county-level administrative organizations have been drawn in the project, said the newspaper.
