Typhoon Fitow Leaves Four Dead, 1.4 Million Affected in South China Province

Flooding caused by typhoon Fitow has left four dead, 1.44 million affected and brought about 400 million yuan in direct economic losses in Guangdong province, south China, local officials said Sunday.

The officials said 2.38 million houses collapsed as a result of the heavy rainfall in nearly 10 consecutive days in 10 counties in the province.

Hardest hit economically were the agricultural and fishing industries, with damage amounting to 300 million yuan.

Also wrecked by the flooding were 240 sections of embankment totaling 57 km in length, 85 water locks and other water conservancy facilities.
