Li Peng Discusses Party Relations With Vietnamese Party Chief"The political foundations of Sino-Vietnamese relations have been more sound and solid than ever, and mutual trust and cooperation for development have been the common aspiration of both countries," said Li, who is a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. Manh was elected general secretary of the CPV Central Committee in April. "The new leadership of the CPV has attached great importance to the development of the relations with China, which we value very much," Li said. Li said that "both countries share the common goals of building a socialist country, and the good neighborly relations between the two countries are in the interest of the two peoples." Li extended to Manh cordial greetings from Jiang Zemin, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, saying that Jiang is expecting Manh's visit to China later this year. Li said that it will be the highest level of visit by Vietnamese leaders to China after the new leadership of the CPV was elected, and the strategic dialogue to be held in Beijing will be of great significance. Manh said that the two parties have always been supporting each other, and the Vietnamese people will never forget the the valuable support and help from the Chinese people in their fight for national independence, national unification, and in the cause of socialist construction. Manh said that it has been proven by history that the strengthened Vietnam-China ties are not only in the interests of the two peoples, but also benefit regional peace, stability and development. He spoke highly of the land border treaty which has taken effect and agreements on the Beibu Gulf demarcation and fishery industry cooperation already signed by the two governments, saying that Vietnam will speed up the follow-up work of implementing these agreements. After briefing Manh on the domestic situation in China and Jiang's landmark speech on Party construction made on July 1, Li exchanged views with Manh on international and regional issues of common concern.
