China Sexology Society Holds Annual Meeting

The China Sexology Society opened its fourth annual meeting Saturday in Chengdu, this capital of China's southwestern Sichuan Province.

More than 300 scholars from across the country are expected to discuss the topic of "Sex and Health in China in the 21st Century" at the three-day meeting.

Attendees said the study of sexology has become an urgent issue, as more people are becoming more aware of the importance of sexual hygiene. The growing number of venereal disease and AIDs victims has added to the challenge.

Sources with the society said that currently there are more than 20 kinds of venereal diseases rampant in China, and some five to six million people are infected. Among them, over 60 are HIV carriers.

Established in 1994, the society has 3,200 members.
