APEC Finance Ministers Meeting Focuses on Global Economy

Most of the participants in the ongoing Eighth APEC Finance Ministers Meeting hold an optimistic view of the Asian-Pacific region, Jin Liqun, Chinese vice-minister of finance, said Saturday in Suzhou.

Finance ministers from the 21 APEC economies and senior representatives from international financial organizations discussed the global and regional macro-economic situation, said Jin, who is also head of the Chinese delegation.

The ministers have gained a deeper understanding of the adverse impact of the sluggishness of the world economy, Jin said.

The APEC member economies have agreed to strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation, in order to spur economic enhancement in the region.

Against the backdrop of the global economic situation, the Asia- Pacific region is also confronted with new challenges. The ministers have then concentrated their discussion on how to have the APEC mechanism to play a role in effectively helping promote the healthy growth of the global economy and safeguard a stable financial market, Jin said.
