China's Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo Meets HK, Macao Officials,Businessmen

Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo said Saturday that the Chinese mainland welcomes more businessmen from Hong Kong and Macao to seek business opportunities in the inland as the country's steady economic growth has brought new opportunities.

Wu made the remarks during a meeting with senior trade and commerce officials and businessmen from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) and the Macao SAR. They are here attending the China International Fair of Investment and Trade, an annual event which began Saturday morning.

Wu briefed them on the mainland's economic performance, which scored a 7.9 percent growth in GDP in the first half of this year, a shining achievement in the midst of today's world economic slowdown.

He said the rapid economic growth in the mainland offers a strong support to the economy in the two SARs, and brings more business opportunities.
