Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Meets British GuestChinese Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo said Saturday in Xiamen the establishment of the Sino-British Investment Partnership mechanism will help push forward trade and investment between the two countries.Wu made the remark during a meeting with Lord Charles Powell, chairman of the British-China Trade Council, and his delegation. They are here to attend the annual China International Fair for Investment and Trade, which began Saturday in this coastal city of Fujian Province. The founding of the mechanism was announced at a China-Britain investment seminar later in the day. The new mechanism is expected to help introduce more British investment into China. Britain is the largest investor in China among members of the European Union. It is also the second largest trading partner of China in Europe. Wu said China pays special attention to developing cooperative relations with Britain in trade and investment, and will work jointly with the British side for a further growth of trade and investment. Lord Powell said the British government and business community also consider that China has a huge market potential as the country's economy keeps a good momentum of growth. China is to join the World Trade Organization very soon and its capital Beijing has won the right to host the 2008 Olympiad. All these have offered abundant business opportunities for British companies, he said.
