China Draws Russia 0-0 in Ice Hockey Friendly

China fought to a 0-0 draw with Russia Friday evening for a second place at the Beijing International Women's Ice Hockey Tournament.

Russia settled for the third place with three defeats and a draw.

The Russians, who had lost three consecutive games before Friday, dominated the first period and forced Chinese goalie Guo Hong to several brilliant saves but failed to find the net.

China slowly went back into the game after the break and both sides came close to scoring several times in the second and third periods. However, the score sheet remained as 0-0 after 60 minutes.

Olympic champions the United States had secured their title at the three-team tournament, which adopted double round-robin format, with four successive wins over China and Russia before Friday's action.

All the three teams will take part in the Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, the United States next year, with China and U.S. drawn to the same group.
