Chinese Province Starts Reforms of County Government Organs

The reform of government organs at county level started recently in east China's Anhui Province, which is also pioneering the country's rural tax-for-fee reform.

According to guidelines approved by the Anhui provincial government, payrolls of various government departments at county level will be cut by 10 to 28 percent.

The reform is a must for the government to change its functions and improve its efficiency under the market economy. It is also a necessity for streamlining the civil service force and cutting the costs of governments, the guidelines say.

The reform is expected to be completed at the end of the year.
