China to Step Efforts for Environmental Protection

The Chinese government has always attached importance to environmental protection and has called for greater efforts to protect China's ecological system, said a senior official with the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative (CPPCC) on Thursday.

At the closing ceremony of the 21st Century Forum on Forestry and Environmental Protection, Jiang Zehui, vice-chairman of the Subcommittee of Human Resources and the Environment of the CPPCC National Committee, said that at the beginning of the new century, it is necessary to examine the model and process of human culture and face the reality that humans have devastated the environment.

According to her, as the world steps into the information age, people should treat forests and the environment kindly and rebuild "a green culture."

On China's environmental policies, she said that China's top policy-makers have always paid much attention to environmental protection. The Chinese government has made pollution prevention and environmental protection priorities in its economic and social development plan.
