Embassy Banquet Marks DPRK Founding

The Embassy of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) held a banquet Friday to mark the 53rd anniversary of the DPRK's founding.

Chinese Vice-Premier Qian Qichen, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee, attended the banquet.

Ryu Yong Mun, charge d'affaires of the DPRK Embassy, said at the banquet that Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) Central Committee, visited China in May last year and January this year, while Jiang Zemin, general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee, has just concluded a visit to the DPRK.

This shows to the world the continued development of the two countries' traditional friendship, and the historic meetings of the two countries' leaders are milestones for the promotion of the traditional friendship, he said.

Zhou Wenzhong, China's assistant foreign minister, said at the banquet that China will, as always, support the cause of socialist construction of the DPRK, and support the reasonable proposals put forward by the Korean Workers' Party and the DPRK government for realizing the national reunification in an independent and peaceful way.

With the joint efforts from the two parties, governments and peoples, Sino-DPRK friendship will certainly be further consolidated and more fruitful, Zhou said.
