Li Peng's Vietnam Visit, Source of Encouragement: Nhan Dan NewspaperThe party daily Nhan Dan (People) of Vietnam welcomed an official goodwill visit to the country by the Chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People' s Congress Li Peng.In an editorial on Friday, the daily described Li Peng's visit as a source of encouragement to the Vietnamese people and a vivid expression of the two countries' desire to develop the ties on the principle of "long term stability, orientations towards the future, good-neighborliness and friendship and all-round cooperation." The party daily also praised the great successes the Chinese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) have achieved in the cause of national construction. In more than two decades of reform and opening-up drive, the Chinese people have not only steadily developed the economy but also greatly contributed to dealing with issues in the regions and the world, improving the standing of China in the international arena. Vietnam and China are close neighboring countries sharing a common border. Over the past half-century since the establishment of diplomatic ties, both countries have provided great assistance to each other in their national construction and defence, Nhan Dan recalled. Since the early 1990s, the two countries have striven to promote the political, economic and cultural exchanges in order to elevate their bilateral comprehensive cooperation in a new dimensions, said the daily. The daily further recalls last year's major diplomatic activities, particularly the signings of bilateral agreements within the framework of visits exchanged by both sides, which all marked major effort and determination of the two countries' leaders and people to lift their bilateral relations to a new height. Li Peng, who is also Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, arrived here Friday, beginning his four-day official goodwill visit to Vietnam.
