China Helps Cambodia Drill 1,000 Wells for Drinking Water

On behalf of the Chinese government, Chinese Ambassador Ning Fukui Friday morning handed over 500 tube wells to Ly Thuch, Minister of the Rural Development, at the city of Kompong Speu, capital of Kompong Speu province, about 50 kilometers west of Phnom Penh.

This is the second grant aid of China in rural water supply sector development in Cambodia. The first grant aid of 500 tube wells was already awarded in April, 1999.

China helped Cambodia construct 1,000 tube wells for drinking water which can provide about 250,000 people in the rural areas with clean drinking water.

The Chinese government provided 16 million Yuan ( about 2 million U.S. dollars) in grant for the well construction program in Cambodia, Ly Thuch said.

He expressed his thanks to the Chinese government for its sincere help for the Cambodian people, stressing that it has indicated the fraternal relations and friendship between Cambodia and China.
